Consulting

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Due to the forward nature of a few of my last posts I have received some emails from people that are concerned that I won’t be available to consult with them when they need it. My response is simple. I will IF the price is right. That isn’t so hard to understand, is it? I’ve [...]

Real Americans

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

I found this article in USAToday, and thought it was absolutely fantastic.  It is nice to see that not all Americans are depending on their politicians and bureaucrats to give them a handout.  These kids are doing exactly what America was designed to be.  I wonder how our economy would do if everyone took personal [...]

A Great Example of Sound Personal Economics

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

I recently started reading a book called I Will Teach You to be Rich by Ramit Sethi. A friend of a friend recommended it, and since I used to be a “financial professional” I wanted to see what this supposed hot new author had to say. He has a lot of good ideas, and I think the book will speak to a financially unsavvy generation of 20-somethings that do really have any habits of restraint and frugality. For others that already have a working plan, it is a lot of stuff you may already know. The only real value I got out of the book was the couple of chapters on what Ramit does to automate his budgeting, saving, and bill paying with online banking systems. It really simplifies things and I have found a lot of free time each week now that certain things are automated. I do follow some of his Twitter and Blog posts and found a really great case study. I am always inspired by entrepreneurs that follow their own path and do what it takes to leverage their own talents to make a living and not be chained to a desk (unless that is what they want).

MLMs Don't Work

Friday, October 24th, 2008

I have multiple friends and associates that are involved in different network (multi-level) marketing “opportunities” that seem to keep asking me to sign up in their downline. They want me to be part of their team to sell Product XYZ because it has “changed [their] life.” I get one liners like, “Sean, I’ve signed up [...]

People Are the Only True Assets

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

I’ve attended several seminars over the last few years that have all had their own way of saying that “people are the only true assets in life.” From these pretty words, attendees get warm fuzzy feelings and keep on listening so they too can learn from the insightful speaker. The premise is that people are [...]

Time to Think

Monday, October 20th, 2008

I’ve come to a conclusion while, contemplating the effects of the stock market crash on my life and the lives of those around me. If you have an IRA or a 401(k) or something similar, did you read the prospectus enclosed with the other paperwork surrounding this particular investment? Did you read all the fine [...]

Why Are You So Special, and Who Cares?

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

I have been meeting a lot lately with a professional services firm (specific industry purposefully omitted) who is trying desperately to grow their clientele. They have multiple sources of income that are allowing them to keep their doors open, the largest of which is unrelated to any of the value they provide. So, really without [...]

You Get What You Pay For

Monday, February 18th, 2008

I just got home from an interesting seminar. It was a half-day event and cost $1,000. I probably should have asked for my money back when they were offering the refund at the end for anyone that wanted it, but something stopped me. I certainly had my own set of expectations that were not met [...]

An Aspiring Graphics Designer

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

A good friend of mine had his sister call me for career advice today. He knows that I am in the “website business” and his sister is finishing design school with an emphasis in web design and layout. She wanted my take on how to best break in and have a successful career. It was [...]

The #1 Asset Any Business Has

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Your customers are your business! Without them you are as good as plumbing without water. You may not ever own or control your actual customers, but you will own and control information about them that is extremely powerful. Your number one asset is a well-managed database of customers and prospective customers. When I teach most [...]
