I’m really excited for this new year. My Internet marketing company, Enliven Group, has grown substantially. We service some of the best clients and have some fantastic long-term relationships. My personal, professional, and family goals are the most optimistic and forward thinking I’ve had in years. There seems to be a glimmer of hope in the business community I work in, and a since of positive forward motion I haven’t seen in at least three years. Not only that, but I’m excited for the new visions I have for this blog, and a lot of new online endeavors. We live in such an amazing time, I can’t wait to make something of it.

Local Business SEO Basics Part 1: Content Creation

I am trying to get more visibility so a majority of my writing efforts are currently being spent creating for content other than my own blog. I know that there are some of my massive readership that couldn’t possibly understand, but I feel like my profile on Ezine Articles can get me and Enliven Group more exposure as we strive to grow our SEO and Internet Marketing services to the Salt Lake City area.

Anyway, this is the first of a series of 3 or 4 articles outlining some simple things smaller business owners can do to improve their standing with the major search engines. Not everyone can afford the SEO services Enliven Group offers and it is far beyond us to try and pull what most firms do. Meaning, hide the so-called “secrets” of the business and chart customers way too much because a salesman was able to wow a new client with their own ignorance. Good SEO practices really aren’t a secret and I’m not in the businesses of trying to make it a secret. Enliven Group is around to provide quality services that our clients can’t or don’t have the time to do themselves. In fact, our approach is to educate the client on how SEO and other Internet Marketing is done correctly so they know what it is we are doing for them. The nice thing about the Holiday Season is that I get to get a lot of work done. One of my favorite things to do when working on my business rather than working in it is to write articles. I just hosted the first Enliven Group workshop in a long time. I called it Dominating Online Local Listings. I must say it turned out very well. Out of 30 seats available, we filled 22. The description of the event read as follows:

On Tuesday, December 14, at Pyxis Suites, Co-Founder of Enliven Group, Sean Burrows, is offering a free workshop for local business owners. The material covered will include detailed steps and explanation on how to achieve a dominant local listing in Google Places, Yahoo! Local, Bing Local and other similar free online services. Other topics will include basic search keyword research, basic SEO steps for improving your website, and money wasting services to avoid. This is an event targeted towards BNI Goldmine Chapter members but guests are welcome. There are only 30 seats available and anyone who plans on attending must RSVP through the EventBrite service.

I have written some articles based on the material covered in tonight’s workshop which should be published soon on my Ezine Articles profile.

The UC50

Although it doesn’t happen much anymore, last week I was approached with a UC50 deal. Here is how it works; an entrepreneur comes to me or someone at my Internet marketing firm and inquires about our services. They are dressed well, speak intelligently, and ask intelligent questions. All of the signs point at this person being a possible new client, and THEN it happens! They want us to do market research, invest resources (money, time, man hours, etc.) into determining the best plan of attack for marketing their product, and then implement the plan. After months of work, trial and error, and data collection, if any sales are made, they are willing to split the revenue from the sales of the product they were so gracious to tell us about.

“I bring you the idea, and you do all the work, then we can split the spoils down the middle!” they say to you. A close friend of mine named this a UC50, or a “Utah County 50/50″. It seems that whenever I or one of my associates gets approached with such an unbalanced offering, it has come out of a Utah County based business. Anymore, it is entertaining to watch the people that come in with such proposals try to justify such an arrangement, and then to flat out say, “NO!”
